icograda | Rumba

International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) is the world body for professional graphic design and visual communication. Founded in 1963, it is a voluntary assembly of associations concerned with graphic design, visual communication, design management, design promotion and design education. Icograda promotes graphic designers' vital role in society and commerce and unifies the voices of graphic designers and visual communicators worldwide. The vision, mission and core values of the council are collectively embodied in the communication statement of 'leading creatively' which is manifested through our members diverse activities to use design as a medium for progressive change.

Rumba, a big typeface

Rumba is a new typeface family consisting of three fonts: Rumba Small, Rumba Large and Rumba Extra. The typeface is specially designed for the languages spoken in Spain: Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque. The concept for the family is based on the idea of fonts related to each other in function, contrast, expressiveness and use, not in the classical range of weights. They go from roman to italic (in an upright version), from the translation to expansion model and from high to extra high contrast. Rumba Super will come in the future as an extra bold version of Rumba Extra. Enjoy!
Born in Barcelona, Laura Meseguer describes herself as a (Typo)graphic designer. She graduated from Graphic Design in 1992 and is currently undertaking a Master in Design, Postgraduate Course Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, The Netherlands. From 1987 to 1996, she worked in different graphic design studios and advertising agencies. Since 1996, Laura has been practising as a freelance designer at her own studio, Cosmic, which specialises in identity and editorial design. In 1992 she joined the typographic team 'Type-O-Tones', with whom she has participated in exhibitions and conferences. Some of Cosmic's and Type-O-Tones' projects have been prized and published in and out of Spain.
